Features and Condition of Nagoya Obi | New Nagoya Obi
This is a summer/unlined Nagoya obi from Kuriyama Kobo, perfect for casual occasions.
A beautiful item featuring large and small varied designs of snow ring patterns on a rich, deep black background.
It's stylish to incorporate snow designs in the hot summer to evoke coolness visually.
This obi, titled "Snow Rabbit," reveals white rabbit silhouettes hidden between the snow ring patterns upon closer inspection.
This obi is made using real hemp.
There are some yellowish areas on the white parts, but this is the natural texture of the natural fabric material.
(This is not a stain or defect.)
This is a point-pattern obi, where the taiko (back knot) and abdominal sections are dyed with snow ring patterns in cool colors.
We recommend coordinating this obi with a simple kimono to make the obi the star of the outfit.
Please enjoy pairing it with iromuji (solid color kimonos), komon (small-patterned kimonos), and tsumugi (pongee kimonos).
Kuriyama Kobo was established in 1952. The first generation, Yoshisaburo Kuriyama, was captivated by Okinawa's traditional resist-dyeing "Bingata" and established a dyeing workshop for "Washo Bingata," which fuses Bingata with Kyoto's representative dyeing technique, "Kyo Yuzen."
Kuriyama Kobo's works are known as "Kuriyama Bingata."
At over 370 cm, it is made longer than a typical Nagoya obi.
Since it is finished in the Nagoya style, we encourage even beginners to try it on.
