Nagoya Obi Features and Condition | New Nagoya Obi
This is a summer/unlined Nagoya obi made by Kuriyama Kobo, perfect for casual occasions.
The center of the obi features a grape arabesque design in white on a black background.
Both sides of the obi have a stylish design of small flowers on a white background.
This obi is made using real hemp.
There are some yellowish areas on the white parts, but this is the natural texture of the natural fabric material.
(This is not a stain or defect.)
This is a point-patterned obi, with the flowers from the white sections on both sides dyed in beautiful colors on the otaiko (drum) and abdominal sections.
We recommend coordinating it with a simple kimono to make the obi the star of the outfit.
Please enjoy pairing it with iromuji (solid color kimonos), komon (small-patterned kimonos), and tsumugi (pongee kimonos).
Kuriyama Kobo was established in 1952. The first generation, Kishisaburo Kuriyama, was captivated by "Bingata," a traditional Okinawan stencil dyeing technique, and founded a dyeing workshop for "Wazome Bingata," which fuses Bingata with "Kyo Yuzen," a representative Kyoto dyeing technique.
Works by Kuriyama Kobo are known as "Kuriyama Bingata."
At over 370 cm, this obi is longer than a typical Nagoya obi.
Since it is tailored in the Nagoya style, we encourage even beginners in kimono dressing to try it.
The overall photo is the closest representation of the color, but it may vary slightly depending on your device.
